Nook Miles Monday August 3, 2020
“For Nook Miles Monday, I jogged on my treadmill for about an hour, using the Charity Miles app to track the amount of miles I jogged. I ended up with a total of 3.561 miles. I loved participating in this service event because I was able to help out March of Dimes, my preferred charity, and get into shape at the same time.”

“Nook Miles Monday used the app Charity Miles, which I have discussed before, and I have fallen in love with it. On Monday, I walked a total of 4.15 miles for March of Dimes. This event was perfect because our Division began a month-long service challenge using Charity Miles. I had a lot of fun and Charity Miles makes exercise a little more bearable when you know that you’re doing it for a good cause. I really recommend this app because it’s a great way to earn hours over the course of our ongoing service event!” - Emiri Handa, Key Club President
“It wasn’t much, but I decided to pull my phone out and start the timer on Charity Miles while I was at the store. That way, I could multitask without doing anything too different! I walked around the store A LOT to get the extra distance, and it worked!” - Selei Cho, Key Club Vice President
K.K. Slider’s Talent Show Tuesday August 4, 2020
“I played the kalimba and typed my college essay for K.K. Slider’s Talent Show Tuesday and recorded it on my phone. It was fun putting the videos together and posting them on Instagram. Even though I’m a beginner at the kalimba, I was impressed that it sounded nice.”
- Selei Cho, Key Club Vice President
“The Animal Crossing Self-Care Service Week was a lot of fun! We were given many fun different activities to do throughout the week, such as Tuesday’s activity of sharing your hobbies. While making the videos, I was still getting my hobbies completed, and even made a bracelet for Key Club! The activities were definitely enjoyable and I am glad to have made hours during quarantine.” - Emily Brandon, Key Club Member
“For K.K. Slider’s Talent Show Tuesday, I had a blast! I have many hobbies that I do on and off, but this service event let me really focus on doing something to the best of my ability. I like the idea behind this event and how, by showing our hobbies, we can inspire others to pick up a few fun activities over the course of our time at home. I know that quarantine can be stressful, but by doing this we can connect with the members in our club and find something that makes us happy. Personally, I found that taking time for myself to really complete these activities made me ecstatic and I hope others were happy as well.” - Emiri Handa, Key Club President
Isabelle’s Wholesome Wednesday August 5, 2020
“Isabelle’s Wholesome Wednesday was an event that utilized the Sidewalk Chalk Art Idea that we brought up before. I think that this event was really special because Isabelle is such a sweet character in the game. I like that anyone would be able to see this as they walk past. I would hope that maybe it brings a smile to someone’s face when they are having a bad day.” - Emiri Handa, Key Club President
Town Square Thursday August 6, 2020
“Out of every event from our Animal Crossing Self-Care Service Week, I truly believe this is my favorite. Having a very relaxed google meets call with Key Club to do Zumba and Yoga was really nice! From this, I learned that Zumba is extremely fun! The energy that the instructor gave off really resonated with me and inspired me to keep moving even when my limbs were sore. I’m a pretty stiff dancer, but the moves weren’t that complicated! Although this event wasn’t for hours, I really believe that I gained a deeper bond with those who attended, especially as we laughed when the videos were of low quality.” - Emiri Handa, Key Club President
“For Town Square Thursday, we did a zumba and yoga class. It was really beneficial for our mind and bodies during this stressful period in our lives.”
- Taryn Kono, Key Club Treasurer
Fanatic Friday August 7, 2020
“For Fanatic Friday, I created a Freerice account and joined Centennial Key Club’s Freerice group. The ads on Freerice generate money, and that money is donated to the World Food Programme to help families in need. I enjoyed playing the multiple-choice quiz games the website offered. I was pretty good at geography, chemistry, and Spanish in school, so I had a lot of fun playing the World Capitals, Chemical Symbols, and Spanish categories on Freerice.” - Sophia Sanalila, Key Club Bulletin Editor
